I am curious about the sons Thomas and Richard Huff named in this will. There were two men of those names that were living in what was then One Leg Township of Tuscarawas County, Ohio at the time of the 1830 census. Thomas was born between 1780 and 1790 and Richard was born between 1790 and 1800. By 1840, that area was Monroe Township of Harrison County and Richard Huff had moved to Wood County, Ohio. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any documents identifying the children of either of these men, but there was a younger Caleb Huff in the area (born 1811) and also a Jesse Huff (born about 1818, I think) who were likely ages to be sons of Thomas or Richard. The presence of all four of these names in Harrison County suggests a tie to the Pike County testator and it is my opinion that Thomas and Richard are the sons named in the will and that Caleb and Jesse are grandsons, named for their uncles. Perhaps you have further information on this that either confirms my suspicion or proves it wrong. I have not proven my own tie to these Harrison County Huffs. I descend from Elizabeth Huff (1813-1844) who married Samuel Thrawls in that area in 1832. I think she was a daughter of Thomas or Richard, most likely Thomas. - [S8814] Huff Genforum

Estate records of an Isaac Hiestand in SomersetCounty, Pennsylvania indicate that he did have a daughter named Mary whomarried a Thomas Huff. They also indicate that he had a son named John Hiestand and there is a John Hiestand (or Heaston, 1778-1846) buried near Samuel and Elizabeth (Huff) Thrawls in Conotton. The pieces all seem to fit but proof islacking. Another neighbor of all of these people is Richard Huff, born in the 1790s, but he moved to Wood County, Ohio prior to 1840 and died there. This Richard is of a likely age to have been a brother of Thomas - [S14626] Pike county, Ohio County Probate Court Records

Looking for information on Elizabeth Huff, born 27 September 1813, who married Samuel Thrawls on 9 February 1832 in what was then One Leg Township of Tuscarawas County, but later became Monroe Township of Harrison County, Ohio. Elizabeth and Samuel had children named Catherine Ann, Sarah, Thomas William, Mary, Joseph, Rebecca, and John. Elizabeth died 12 October 1844 and she and Samuel (1809-1877) are buried in Conotton, North Township, Harrison County. The next year, Samuel married Sarah Huff (b. ca. 1825, PA) who may have been Elizabeth's sister or cousin. I have seen a chart prepared by someone name William H.H. Turner that identifies Elizabeth and Sarah as daughters of Thomas Huff and Mary Hiestand. This same chart also says that Elizabeth and Sarah had brothers named Caleb, George, and Henry. But it does not cite any documentation. Samuel and Elizabeth (Huff) Thrawls did, indeed, live near a couple named Thomas and Mary Huff who were born in the 1780s (based on their ages in the census) and also near a Caleb Huff (1811-1870) who is buried next to them in Conotton. Estate records of an Isaac Hiestand in Somerset County, Pennsylvania indicate that he did have a daughter named Mary who married a Thomas Huff. They also indicate that he had a son named John Hiestand and there is a John Hiestand (or Heaston, 1778-1846) buried near Samuel and Elizabeth (Huff) Thrawls in Conotton. The pieces all seem to fit but proof is lacking. Another neighbor of all of these people is Richard Huff, born in the 1790s, but he moved to Wood County, Ohio prior to 1840 and died there. This Richard is of a likely age to have been a brother of Thomas. - [S8814] Huff Genforum

- Benjamin Huff was born on 4 June 1815 in Addison Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania.
- He was born in 1816 in Virginia.1
- He was born in 1820 in Virginia Note the 5-year difference in birth years as well as state of birth. It is conceivable that there was some confusion about which state Somerset county was in during the early 1800's since state lines were moved about.2

- Benjamin Huff resided in Iowa, United States, in 1870 Note that Elizabeth Huff (1852-1938) was married in 1869 -- so she was out of the house of Benjamin Huff by 1870. So this Eliza Ann Huff could be another daughter or a niece, etc.1
- He died in 1872, at age ~57, in Allamakee County, Iowa, Son, John Huff's obituary says that he took care of his younger siblings after the death of his parents -- when he was 21 years old. That would be about 1867, but obviously John's father is still alive in 1870.
