The remains of Mrs. Zerilda Nicholson were laid to rest last Wednesday in the Wilson Cemetery. The funeral cortege, which was one of the largest ever seen in this county, proceeded from the residence of Judge Nicholson to the Buffalo school house, where the Rev. C. C. Wilson preached an impressive funeral sermon to the large concourse of friends of the deceased.
Mrs. Nicholson was born in or near the city of Baltimore, Maryland, in the year 1810. She moved with her parents in 1812 to the city of Louisville, Kentucky, where they lived for four years, afterwards moving to Washington county, Indiana. Eleven years later she was married to Thomas Field, who died in July 1835, leaving four children, all of whom have since died, to mourn his death. On the 20th of February, 1841, she was united in marriage to Dr. G. B. Nicholson, of Salem, Indiana. They moved to this county in 1858, and in Feb. 26, 1877, the doctor died, and was laid to rest in the Wilson Cemetery. To Dr. and Mrs. Nicholson were born six children, two of whom only now survive.
Mrs. Nicholson was a consistent member of the Methodist church for over forty years and leaves behind her a vacancy that her many friends will find hard to fill.
