In answer to your letter - in order to join the Daughters of the Revolution -- you must be a lineal descendent of revolutionary soldier -- shown from the war record at Washington -- then you must give your Genealogical Record from this soldier down to yourself -- I can help you with the first part -- _____ you must look up the ballance -- the line of your ancestry will be as follows

John Church a soldier of the revolution was born at Saybrook Conn -- Aug 3d 1755
He married Deborah Spencer March 20 1780
    (Died Dec 6 1834 -- aged 79 yrs)

David Church -- son of John and Deborah Church was born at Winchester Conn Jun 14 1788

David Church married Mrs. margaret martin near Erie Pa (probably Millcreek township) 18- you must get dat of marriage

David Church Junior son of David & Margaret Church -- was born near Erie Pa -- you must get date of his birth -- [Oct 20 1827]

David Church Jun -- married Hariet Shattuck in Green Township Erie co Pa [Mar 4 1852] you must get date

Walter Church son of David & Harriet Church was born -- name place and date [Erie Co. Penn. Mar 23 1853]

I know not the form -- of the petition for membership of your charter -- But it will probably begin as follows
I Lura Church -- daughter of Walter Church & wife (here give name of wife) hereby apply for membership in its society by the right of descent from John Church who was born in Saybrook Conn Aug 3 1755 and died at Winchester Conn -- Dec 6 1834 aged 79 yrs for his services is assisting in the establishment of American Independence during the war of the Revolution upon which my clain of eligibility to membership is based as follows -- which I have given you in the first Page of my letter -- you must get all these dates of marriages and births to show that you are the real lineal descendent of John Church -- you must give the war records of John Church -- which I will give you -- then you will have to be admitted to membership -- by a vote of the members -- after you are admitted -- your admittance -- has to be approved at Washington DC

    3
no one with a bad or immoral character is ever admitted to be a member of this association -- i suppose different charter have different prices of admission -- at Erie it is $5.00 -- But $3 of this money has to go Washington -- if your admittance is approved -- if not approved I suppose the whole $5.00 is returned -- at Erie the yearly fee is $3 per year -- but of this $1.00 has to Washington each year -- But I know not the Bye Laws of your charter my daughter Phila Olds Cole of Greencastle Ind is regent of the Greencastle Chapter -- ours went to Washington last ____ or delegate -- my daughter Mrs. nettle Olds Lamb is appointed delegate this year to Washington -- but I herself think she will go it costs to much money -- though I have offered to pay her expenses -- I think when you are admitted I think you are sworn -- that you believe your ancestral is true and correct -- and that you have never applied for admission in any other place or state at the end of your application for admission you are allowed to write the history of John Church -- I have generally wrote this history for my relatives -- But Mr. A. F. Whitman of 786 Dayton Ave St. Paul -- is competent to write the history she is a Daughter _____ Church your grand father knows he feel she is related to him I however think my sister Clarissa Olds Keeler -- knows his history better than any living person -- I saw him when 10 years of age and heard him tell about going to quebec
    4
there is no money charges -- here all you have to pay is the charges required at Hampton the records at Washington show two John Churchs but it is all the same man He enlisted two or three times -- I sent grandmother last christmas a pair of gloves they came back to me and now in my office -- I supposed she would write and tell me what size and color to get But I have never heard from her -- I am afraid she is mad at me for nonsense I have done or written -- if so I will make an almighty long prayer to be forgiven I sent west to places were I visited 18 pairs of small Gloves and hers was only one among the number -- I can exchange them for any size or color that she wants -- please find out and let me send back the Gloves as they were bought for her and I want her to have them -- The war record I send you you need not return --
