   The Miller line that I know started with GeorgeMoncey Miller marrying Otine Olsdatter (my grandmother, born 1883), who camefrom Granmoen, Norway. They lived in Buhl Minnesota, and he worked in the ironmines. They had two daughters, Zona Belle Miller, born 1908 and Norma OleaMiller (my mother, born 1910), and moved to Chisholm, MN.

   Ihave little to add to what Bill told you about the Miller side of our ancestry.I know more about my grandmother from Norway, Thina. It was customary whenemigrating during the so-called Great Migration of Norwegians owing to povertyand famine 1870-1910 to take the name of the farm as the surname. Thus, shebecame Thina Granmo when arriving in Duluth, MN. Since Norway used theScandinavian custom (still extant in Iceland) of taking the father’s name andtracking on -dottir (daughter) or -son, she was  originally Otine (Thina)Olsdottir (daughter of Ole Olsson [his father was also Ole]). There is still afarm called Granmo, and a school named after it when an ancestor donated landfor its construction.
