AAAMyrtle Lugene (Atwood) Stoner died May 25 at the Mayes County Medical Center in Pryor. She was born on Dec. 8, 1915, the daughter of Hattie Ann Weldon and Frank Eugene Bliss in Muller Hill Community, Georgetown, N.Y. Stoner was a nurse’s aide at Eastern State Hospital. She married Howard L. Stoner in August 1977 at Colcord. Her interests included serving in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Rebecca Lodge. She was a member of Central Christian Center, Joplin, Mo. She served in community service at Souls Harbor in Joplin, Mo., and at the nursing home. She made lap quilts by the dozens. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; daughter Margaret Kershner and son Robert E. Atwood. Her family includes two daughters, Nada Atwood, Medford, Ore., and Betty Jones and husband Jim, Salina; five sons, Ray L. Atwood and wife Mary, Savannah, Ga., William T. Atwood and wife Nola, Webb City, Mo., Richard S. Atwood and wife Madeline, Elma, N.Y., Karl L. Atwood and wife Joan, Gentry, Ark., and John M. Atwood, Joplin, Mo.; 34 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephew and nieces. Pallbearers will be Kirk Brite, Gene Haynes, Nathan Atwood, Zack Botteroff, Josh Brite and Nick Brite. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 28, at Burckhalter Funeral Home, Vinita.
