Descendants of Peter Stacy - 5 generations

Stacy Research Challenge

This is the family of Solomon Louis Jacobs and his wife, Nancy Jane Stacy. Records show that Nancy's paternal grandparents were Peter Stacy and wife Anna Catherine. Several researchers have suggested that Peter Stacy is the son of Peter Stacy and Ruth Croswell. Perhaps you have found direct or circumstantial evidence that this is the case? Or perhaps you have found evidence that he is the son of another Stacy? Here are some evidences that may lead to the confirmation of his parentage:

- Transcription of Stacy Cemetery, at bottom of transcription page: "This is on land which had belonged to Peter Stacy, a native of New Jersey. He was dead by 1823 as was his son, George and both may be buried here."

- STACY CEMETERY, transcribed by Jeanne Burke "This is on land which had belonged to Peter Stacy, a native of New Jersey. He was dead by 1823 as was his son, George and both may be buried here."

- Possible brother, Thomas Stasy, listed in the same township in 1783 as Peter Stacy:

- In 1775-1776 Jonathan Higgs traveled to Mason county, Kentucky with a group of 12 "young men" to survey about 20,000 acres. Two members of the group were Haydon and Samuel Wells, also of Virginia. According to the article by Clara Hamlett Robertson, "Haydon was born in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA 9 Sep 1744. He was both a surveyor and a millwright - trades which were valued in pioneer Tennessee."

Interestingly enough, Peter Stacy's suggested parents were from Overwharton Parish, Stafford county, Virginia.

Could Peter Stacy and Jonathan Higgs both have been from Overwharton Parish and known each other before Jonathan's death, which was probated in Yohogania county, Virginia [now Westmoreland/Fayette counties, Pennsylvania]? A Samuel Wells sold property on Jacobs Creek in 1782, where Peter and Catherine LNU Higgs Stacy were living.
