Thomas William Nicholson, son of John Riley and Zeralda Jane Nicholson, was born March 5, 1882, in a log cabin on the homestead 2 1/2 miles southeast of Springfield, Nebr. Mr. Nicholson died June 20, 1969, at an Omaha hospital at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 15 days.
His family came to Nebraska in 1857 and homesteaded under the Homestead Act of 1862. Mr. Nicholson was the eleventh child in a family of twelve and he spent his childhood and youth on this farm.
On March 19, 1902, he was united in marriage to Lora Ellis of Springfield. They continued living on the old farm and their six children were born there. In the spring of 1931 they left the farm and moved to Springfield occupying Mrs. Nicholson's family home.
After sixty-three years of married life Mrs. Nicholson died in August 1965. Mr. Nicholson continued living in their home until about the last two months.
He is survived by one brother, George Nicholson of Papillion, by five daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Ida) Fleming of Omaha, Mrs. Troy (Erma) Buskirk of Springfield, Mrs. Earle (Leona) Harding of Ralston and Mrs. John (Ella) Schlater and Mrs. Wilbur (Annette) Fitzpatrick of Louisville and a son Tomas [sic] William Nicholson, Jr. of Whittman, Nebr., by 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, June 23, 1969, at the Springfield Methodist Church with the Rev. J. L. Hill officiating. Interment was Springfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mr. Nicholson's grandsons Michael Schlater, Donald Fleming, Richard Fleming, Gary Buskirk, Tom Buskirk and Linvalle Meyer.
Kahler Mortuary of Papillion was in charge of arrangements.
