Aunt Connie apparently suffered some sort of emotional problem after having her first and only child, John. My guess is that she might have had a severe case of post partem blues, but they didn't know how to treat it very well back during the 1940's and 50's. So she was sent to a mental asylum for about two years. While she was in there, her husband John Gardner, divorced her and raised their child. He never allowed Aunt Connie to become part of their child's life. This really hurt Aunt Connie. Much later in life Aunt Connie contacted her son John and established a relationship. - [S13557] Carson City, Nevada, Marriage Index, 1855-1985

Aunt Connie was an accomplished pianist. I remember that she was training to be a concert pianist. She had a lovely grand piano in her livingroom. Mom and Dad would take us to their place and they would play pinnocle until late into the evening on weekends. After Par and I were newly married we would go up there and while we played pinnocle, Par would fall asleep. Aunt Connie was always so kind and didn't make him feel bad about falling asleep.
I can remember one of the highlights of my teenage years was going on occasion with Uncle G and Aunt Connie to this restaurant where they served just the best food which included these hugh ice cream desserts. It was so fun!
Early on I learned the few jokes that I can ever remember from Uncle Gordon. Why don't you get down off of a horse? You can't get down off a horse, you can only get down off a goose.

Ok, so they aren't too funny, but for a 9 or 10-year-old they were great!
