"Miss Laura Ream, perhaps most widely known by the letters L. R., has gained a most desirable reputation as a journalist, being faithful to the life in her descriptions of persons, and faithful to the truth in her descriptions of scenes -- She has the pleasing faculty of making the truth interesting. In person, Miss Ream is tall and of the brunette type, having dark hair, with some premature silver threads running through it, and hazel eyes, shaded by long dark lashes; her face is strong, kindly and pleasing and her manner frank, earnest and straightforward, she has acute perceptions, fine reasoning powers, and a particular gift for describing vividly and accurately what she sees, and her belief and practice is upon the old adage, that her "light is none the less for lighting a neighbor's".2
