Biography

John Pfershing was born before 1754.
John Pfershing was also known as John Pershon. He was Military service. Was a member of John Proctor Battalion and Independent Military organization, recrewed in Western Pennsylvania and which made an Expedition down the Ohio, under a Flag bearing as the device and coil Rattle-snake, and the words “Don’t tread on me.” Research Note:. It seems conceivable that these references to "John Pershon" may be the ancestor we call "Frederick Pershing". It is natural for immigrants from Germany/France to have two names, such as Johan Frederick Pershing. So when the inhabitants of Westmoreland county were asked to take the Oath of Allegiance, he might have said his name was Johan Frederick Pfershing. The English-speaking taker, Hugh Martin, would have written down "John", not the name normally used by Germans - the middle name "Frederick".

It should be noted that there is no "Oath of Allegiance" by the immigrant, Frederick Pfershing.
He was witness on 16 May 1775 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. Signer of the Hagerstown Declaration.1 He was oathallegiance on 21 June 1778.1 He witnessed the oathallegiance of Thomas Winter on 30 July 1778 in Pennsylvania. Each of these men took the oath between 1777 and 1779 -- see the document for specific dates.2
