Biography
Caleb Asbury Huff was born 07 August 1819 in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania. He was the son of Caleb Huff and Mary E. (Unknown) Huff.
21 August 1850, Caleb Huff, aged 29 and his wife, Nancy, lived in Richland, Fountain Co., Indiana. According to this record, he was born in Pennsylvania. Nancy was 36. Children in the household: Henry Huff--7; Mary E Huff--6. Also Mowry children: William H.--6; Elizabeth--12; Hannah--10; Susannah--17. Then John Huff-1. and John Huff--21 (likely Caleb's brother.)
05 July 1860 Caleb, a 39 year-old farmer and his wife, Lydia, resided in Lincoln Precinct, Logan, Illinois with five sons and one daughter. In this census, his POB is given as OH, though it is PA in later census reports. They are listed next to his parents, who are farmers, as well. James Vaughn, aged 86, a retired farmer and born in Holland is also in their home. Presumably, he is Lydia's father. In the 1880 census, Lydia gives Prussia as her father's POB.
Caleb A. Huff served during the Civil War as a PVT with the Union troops of the 106th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, Co. G.
01 August 1870--Caleb was 50, his wife, Lydia, 42. They lived in East Lincoln Twp., Logan Co., Illinois with eight children in their home. The three eldest sons helped on the farm.
07 May 1874, he filed for military pension benefits, listing Lydia A. Huff as his beneficiary. 14 July 1890, she received widow's benefits.
1880--Aged 60, Caleb had been born in Pennsylvania, both parents born in Virginia. Lydia A., his 50 year-old wife tended the home while he was a farmer. Four sons and two daughters lived in the household in Corwin Twp..
Caleb A. Huff passed away 16 November 1888 in Lincoln, Logan Co., Illinois, at the age of 69. BURIAL Zion Cemetery

I didn't make it to Bedford Co. but our truck brokedown in Morgantown so I spent some time in their new genealogy library. Some ofour Huffs were there for a while. Found the daughter of Abraham Huff Sr.,Susanna who married William Cotton in 1808. There was also a court record forAbraham in 1811. He was being sued for slander. This is interesting because afew years later in Pike Co, he was also sued for slandering another man's wife.Almost all of the Huffs there had a daughter named Susanna but they are not ourSusanna. They all married someone else. I am more inclined to believe CalebHuff Sr. is the father. I still do not have concrete proof, Ohio census recordsdon't exist for 1800 and 1810 in Pike Co.
