A domestic, Sara F. Wisham, aged 18 and born in Pennsylvania is also in the household. Next to them in the record is son, Caleb, and his family. 04 August 1870--Caleb a 77 year-old retired farmer, lived with his son, David, and his family in Logan, Fountain Co., Indiana. His wife, Mary was no longer with him. He passed away after 1870, likely in Fountain Co., Indiana. Research Notes These records may belong to this Caleb Huff and place him in Seal, Pike Co., Ohio in 1820 and 1830.. [1] [2] This source citation is representative of many tax assessment records in Blanchard, OH, Pike Co, Ohio, etc that place him in the state for that time period. [3] Alternate bio based on info from Billy Huff: Caleb HUFF (1794 PA - after 1870, prob. Logan twp, Fountain Co, IN) may have moved into Pike Co, OH, about 1818 along with Thomas HUFF of Monongalia Co, WV. He md Mary E. ???? (1804 PA - bef 1870 IL) and they lived in Pike Co, OH, Fountain Co, IN, and Logan Co, IL. Their ch or other relatives prob incl: David (31 Mar 1825 Piketon, Pike Co, OH - 7 Apr 1893 Attica IN, bur Bethel Cem) md (1) c 1845 Harriet CLEMENT (1824 IN - 1959 IN) who apparently had no ch. David md (2) in Fountain Co, IN, on 30 July 1860, Martha COLVERT (Apr 1832 IN - 13 Nov 1912, bur Bethel Cem) William M.; Ida May; Erwine; and Wilbur F. He lived in Fountain Co, IN. In 1870, Caleb HUFF was with David's hh. Caleb Asbury (7 Aug 1819 Guernsey Co, OH - 16 Nov 1888 Lincoln, Logan Co, IL) served in Comp G, 106th IL Inf during the Civil War. He md at least twice. In 1850 in Fountain Co, IN, his hh incl apparent wife Nancy (1814 IN - d bef 1855), plus MOWRY ch, plus HUFF ch Henry; Mary E.; George; and John. A probable relative John HUFF (1829 IL) was with him. On 8 May 1855, Caleb A. md Mrs. Lydia A. (VAUGHN) MURRAY, dau of James A. VAUGHN, and widow of John MURRAY. She had several MURRAY ch and HUFF ch were David; James F.; Fanny; Caleb; Hugh; William; and Amanda. RUSH (Oct 1844 IN) and had sons John and Walter. In 1860, he was a painter in Fountain Co, IN. By 1900, he had moved to Vermillion Co, IL. Henry Frank (Mar 1840 IN - ) md Julia ???? and had Charles; Edgar; Arthur B.; Albert A.; and Fred. In 1900, he was listed with wife Amanda E. ????? and ch May and Lucy in Fountain Co, IN. In 1860, he had been in Logan Co, IL, as a laborer with a VAN GRUNDY fam. poss John (1829 IL - ) who was with Caleb A. HUFF in Fountain Co, IN, in 1850. John md Susan ?????, and ch incl son O. A.; Orlando; and son H. F. In 1860, he was in Logan Co, IL. There were several HUFF families in Pike Co, OH, at the time Caleb lived there, including a Caleb HUFF, Sr; however, it is not yet possible to determine the relationship of this Caleb to the others. The most probable connection is that Caleb, Jr, was son of Thomas HUFF, whose heirs in 1841 included son Caleb HUFF. (It is worth noting that the term Jr used on official records merely meant "the younger" until after 1900, when the designation became limited to father-son relationships.)
