I didn't make it to Bedford Co. but our truck brokedown in Morgantown so I spent some time in their new genealogy library. Some ofour Huffs were there for a while. Found the daughter of Abraham Huff Sr.,Susanna who married William Cotton in 1808. There was also a court record forAbraham in 1811. He was being sued for slander. This is interesting because afew years later in Pike Co, he was also sued for slandering another man's wife.Almost all of the Huffs there had a daughter named Susanna but they are not ourSusanna. They all married someone else. I am more inclined to believe CalebHuff Sr. is the father. I still do not have concrete proof, Ohio census recordsdon't exist for 1800 and 1810 in Pike Co.

It appears that there are TWO Caleb Huff's in the same age range - 50-60 yrs old in 1830 living in Pike county, OH. Caleb Huff Senior does appear to have the smaller and older children family. Caleb Huff Junior has the larger and younger family. They quite probably are cousins. - [S8813] Sherilyn Johns Sherilyn Johns, Email Correspondence with Sherilyn Johns
But, I was wondering about 2 things. There was a Caleb Huff whomarried a Latitia Downing. She was born about 1773 in Maryland. There isan extensive Downing Genealogy on the web but never a mention of any childrenthat she and Caleb may have had. The Downing family was prominant in Pikecounty and later moved to Madison county, near London, Ohio. Theage and location fits very well. On a land transaction in Pikecounty though, it says Caleb Huff's wife is Elizabeth. This could be a secondwife and perhaps the mother of his children. Latitia's brother, FrancesWoodward Downing and his wife Elizabeth Foster named one of their sons, CalebHuff Downing. I thought this very unusual. I am sure you havespotted all this on the web but wondered if you had done any more research. - [S15207] Hough, Granville W., Miscellaneous information on Hough and Huff families of Ohio (Book)

There were several HUFF families in Pike Co, OH, at the time Caleb lived there, including a Caleb HUFF, Sr; however, it is not yet possible to determine the relationship of this Caleb to the others. The most probable connection is that Caleb, Jr, was son of Thomas HUFF, whose heirs in 1841 included son Caleb HUFF. (It is worth noting that the term Jr used on official records merely meant "the younger" until after 1900, when the designation became limited to father-son relationships.)
